Where it all began
A sense of place that began at home.
Founder Patrick Odoyo’s story begins in Dago Kogelo Village, in western Kenya’s Migori County, in the wider Lake Victoria region.
Family, education and community relationships were part of his upbringing. His father, Mwalimu Duncan Odoyo Rachuonyo, was a teacher; his mother, Mama Millicent Pamela Odoyo Rachuonyo, was involved in community initiatives supporting women, children and families.
Those roots are part of the perspective Patrick brings to travel: every destination is more than a beautiful view. It is also a place where people live, work, learn and welcome others.
Meet the founder
Patrick Odoyo: a life connecting people and places.
Patrick’s path has taken him from western Kenya to university study in Nairobi and graduate study in the United States. Across education, community leadership and international partnerships, he has worked with people navigating different places, cultures and expectations.
His experience coordinating visits involving international guests and local communities helped inform his understanding of hospitality, preparation and the relationships behind a well-run journey. Those earlier activities were separate from Roselands’ commercial safari operations.
With Roselands, Patrick brings that perspective into a travel company with Kenya at its center: personalized safaris, family and private travel, heritage journeys, educational and institutional programs, and appropriately coordinated travel beyond Kenya.
